The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has announced the indictment of two staff members of the Koidu Government Hospital for allegedly misappropriating medical supplies meant for the government’s Free Health Care Programme.
According to a statement issued by the Commission, Christian Benjamin Karjue, Head Store Keeper at the hospital, and Ibrahim Janneh, a Cleaner, have been charged to the High Court of Sierra Leone, Holden at Kono, on two counts — Conspiracy to Commit a Corruption Offence, contrary to Section 128(1), and Misappropriation of Public Property, contrary to Section 36(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, as amended by the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act No. 9 of 2019.
The indictment alleges that between the 10th and 18th of April 2025, the accused persons, together with other unknown individuals, conspired to willfully misappropriate 13 cartons of assorted medical supplies allocated to the Free Health Care Programme at the Koidu Government Hospital.
The ACC emphasized that the stolen supplies were meant to support maternal and child health services under the government’s flagship Free Health Care initiative, which provides essential medicines and medical services to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under five.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public resources and ensuring accountability in all sectors, especially within public health institutions.
“The ACC remains resolute in protecting public property and ensuring that government resources reach their intended beneficiaries,” the release stated.
The matter will be heard in the High Court in Kono, and the accused are expected to appear before a judge in the coming days.
