United Bank for Africa (UBA), one of Africa’s largest lenders, has appointed Loknath Mishra as Chief Executive Officer of its UK subsidiary, the bank said on Thursday.
The appointment, effective February 2, 2026, comes as UBA seeks to strengthen its international presence and enhance its role as a financial bridge between Africa and global markets.
Mishra will lead UBA UK’s operations, focusing on regulatory compliance, customer service, financial resilience, and expanding the bank’s trade, transaction, and correspondent banking capabilities.

He joins UBA UK from ICICI Bank UK, where he served as Managing Director and CEO, helping to grow the bank’s footprint in the UK and Europe while improving governance and operational resilience.
Mishra has held senior positions at ICICI Bank Limited, including Group Head of Wholesale Banking and Global Head of Transaction Banking, with experience spanning retail, corporate, investment, and transaction banking across international markets.
“Loknath brings an exceptional combination of global banking experience, regulatory credibility and deep expertise in wholesale and transaction banking,” UBA Group CEO Oliver Alawuba said. “His leadership will be instrumental in advancing UBA UK’s role as a flagship subsidiary for the Group.”
Mishra, who has been recognised for driving digital innovation and was conferred the Freedom of the City of London, said he was “honoured to join UBA at a time of significant opportunity” and looked forward to supporting clients in unlocking growth across Africa and beyond.
UBA UK provides correspondent banking, trade finance, transaction banking, and treasury services, supporting African corporates, financial institutions, sovereigns, and international partners.
