Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL), in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE), has successfully concluded a two-day workshop aimed at finalizing the communication and publicity strategy for the upcoming 2026 Population and Housing Census (PHC).

The workshop, held from July 30 to 31 at Sierra Palms Resort in Freetown, brought together top communication and media professionals, government agencies, civil society groups, mobile network providers, and representatives of the entertainment and creative industries. Its key objectives included finalizing the Census communication strategy, developing inclusive messaging for all demographics, and adopting an official logo and slogan that emphasize national participation and inclusivity.

Director of the National Statistical Systems Division at Stats SL, Mr. Francis Tommy, underscored the importance of effective communication in ensuring the success of the Census. He emphasized that public trust and participation are as critical as technical and logistical readiness.

“The 2026 PHC must leave no one behind,” Tommy said, urging participants to bring their expertise and cultural insights to the process.

Minister of Information and Civic Education, Hon. Chernor Bah, echoed the call for nationwide engagement, describing the Census as a vital civic duty.

“Our communication must reach every corner of Sierra Leone,” he said. “It must be clear, inclusive, and culturally sensitive—addressing concerns, dispelling myths, and inspiring participation. Census data drives our policies, development, and resource allocation.”

The workshop concluded with the adoption of a robust communication plan, a unifying slogan, and an official logo for the 2026 Census, signaling a major step in preparing the country for one of its most important national exercises.
