Makeni, Sierra Leone The Statistics Sierra Leone Council has concluded its third strategic retreat in Makeni, approving key committee appointments and reviewing preparations for the 2025 Population and Housing Census, officials said.

The two-day meeting, held from April 16 to 17 at the Mena Hill Conference Hall, brought together council members, directors, and newly appointed officials to assess institutional governance and strengthen coordination ahead of the national census exercise.
On the final day, the Council reviewed reports from its Finance, Human Resources, and Police Committees, focusing on administrative performance, workforce management, and internal security arrangements within Statistics Sierra Leone.
The Council also approved new appointments across its Policy, Human Resources, Finance, and Census Committees, a move aimed at improving oversight and enhancing operational efficiency as census preparations intensify.
Statistician-General and Council Secretary Andrew Bob Johnny presented a progress update on census readiness, outlining key milestones achieved and outlining requirements for delivering a credible and internationally compliant population count.
Council members emphasised the need for stronger coordination, resource mobilisation, and improved data systems to support national development planning.
Statistics Sierra Leone is expected to scale up preparatory activities in the coming months ahead of the nationwide census exercise.
