Sierra Leone’s state-owned telecommunications company, Sierratel, has officially soft-launched its Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) service, marking a significant step in the country’s telecom sector.

The launch event, currently underway, is being broadcast live as the company introduces the new service aimed at expanding mobile connectivity and improving access to affordable communication services.
The MVNO model allows Sierratel to provide mobile services without owning full network infrastructure, instead leveraging existing networks to reach more users across the country.
Officials say the initiative is expected to boost competition, enhance service delivery and support digital inclusion efforts in Sierra Leone.
The soft launch is part of broader efforts to modernize the telecommunications industry and expand access to reliable mobile services nationwide.
