Freetown – Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, has been appointed to the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters for the 2025–2029 term—making her the first Sierra Leonean woman and only the second Sierra Leonean in 25 years to hold the position.
Her appointment, confirmed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, places her among 25 global experts tasked with advising the UN on equitable and development-oriented tax policies. The Committee focuses on helping countries modernize tax systems, including addressing challenges of digital taxation and wealth management.
Bangura, a seasoned financial expert with decades of service in Sierra Leone’s public sector, described the appointment as a milestone for women’s leadership and a reflection of President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to gender inclusion and international engagement.
She extended gratitude to Sierra Leonean officials and diplomats who supported her nomination, including Finance Minister Sheku Fantamadi Bangura, Foreign Minister Musa Timothy Kabba, and Ambassador Imran Kanu.
Bangura’s career includes past roles as Deputy Minister of Finance and Deputy Commissioner General at the NRA, where she championed financial reform and digital modernization.
