The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Rtd Brigadier Dr Julius Maada Bio has on Wednesday 11th December 2024 officially launched the Civic Education
Strategy organized by the Ministry of Information and civic Education.
The According to government, the Salone Civic festival which was held at the Miatta Conference Hall is for all Sierra Leoneans and aims to unite everyone in order to fulfilling their civic responsibilities and prioritizing national development.
Speaking at the event , the President emphasized the importance of embracing the nation’s identity, understanding its origins, and collectively working towards a brighter future.
President Bio underscored the need for Sierra Leoneans to recognize their shared strengths and unite under a common purpose.
“At today’s inaugural civic festival, I emphasized the importance of recognizing our identity, understanding our origins, and defining our aspirations as a nation.
Let us harness our strengths and unite with a common purpose to fulfill our civic responsibilities as Sierra Leoneans and work towards transforming our country,” he stated.
It should be noted that the highlight of the event was the launch of the Civic Education Strategy, which is a comprehensive framework designed to promote civic awareness, patriotism, and national accountability.
The President expressed confidence in the potential of the initiative to foster collaboration among Sierra Leoneans and inspire a renewed commitment to nation-building.
“As I launch the civic education strategy, I am confident that we can collaborate effectively, honoring our civic duties and making our nation a source of pride for the world. It’s time to prioritize our Sierra Leone,” the President affirmed.
According government, the Civic Education Strategy aims to instill a sense of national identity and duty in citizens, emphasizing the role of individuals in achieving collective progress.
Through this initiative, the government seeks to inspire a culture of responsibility, inclusivity, and pride in Sierra Leone’s heritage and future.
The festival served as a platform to rally citizens around shared values and aspirations, reinforcing the call for unity and active participation in shaping the country’s development.
President Bio’s message resonated with attendees, many of whom expressed optimism about the strategy’s potential to drive positive change.
As Sierra Leone embarks on this new chapter of civic engagement, the focus remains on fostering unity, accountability, and pride in the nation’s journey towards transformation.
Minister of Tourism Nabeela Farida Tunis in her statement also at the opening ceremony of the National Civic Festival shared her Ministry’s Commitment in promoting civic education through the “Tourism for All Campaign”. A model that is geared towards shaping and fostering peace and national unity in Sierra Leone.
She reaffirmed that the year long Tourism for all Campaign has brought together all shades of lives in the Country from, north, South, East and West to understand the Country’s unique cultural heritage and have respect for one another.
“We are working closely with relevant partners to ensure that our tourism sector earnest its growth and thrive well”.
