Students and staff of Koinadugu College in northern Sierra Leone have conducted a field research and community engagement trip to Koromasilia village, as part of efforts to strengthen practical learning and research skills.

The visit, held on April 11, brought students to Koromasilia, a farming community located in Falaba District near Kabala town, known for vegetable production and small-scale agriculture that forms the backbone of local livelihoods.
The college said the trip formed part of its second annual field excursion aimed at exposing students to rural life, agricultural practices and community dynamics beyond the classroom.
Students interacted with local leaders, including the town chief and section chief, who welcomed the group and facilitated discussions on community development and daily life in the area.
Participants also visited nearby Koromasilia Mountain, where they engaged in observational learning, research activities and hiking.
The institution said the experience provided students with practical insights into rural livelihoods, social cohesion and environmental conditions, describing the exercise as part of efforts to develop the “next generation of researchers.”
Koinadugu College said such field activities are intended to strengthen academic learning through direct community engagement and experiential education.
