Ex Military Man Sent to Prison For Making Inciting Statement

Alhaji Mohamed Kamara, an Ex Military personnel was on Wednesday 14 November, 2024 sent to jail by  Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court no.2 for allegedly making what the court described as “inciting statements to undermine the peace and security of Sierra Leone.”

The 52 year old man, made his first appearance and was arraigned on a count charge of incitement contrary to law.

According to the indictment, the accused on Saturday 19 October, 2024 in Freetown, did make inciting statements with intent to undermine the peace and security of Sierra Leone.

The Court said that the accused  further stated that Maada Bio led government has killed majority of those that were arrested and detained at the Correctional center in Freetown during the August 10th 2023 protest .

The accused is said to have also claimed that president Bio did not win the June 24 2023 presidential election that whether he (Bio) hand over power or not they he would end up being overthrown .

After the charges were read and explained to the accused he burst into laughter and pleaded not guilty to the offense.

The police prosecutor, Detective Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh sought for an adjournment on the grounds that Witnesses to his case were absent in court.

The accused was unrepresented in court and so no bail application was made on his behalf.

He was remanded in custody until 19 November 2024 for further hearing.
