A former Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) and the authority’s procurement manager have been convicted and sentenced on multiple counts of corruption‑related offences, local media reported on Wednesday.
The pair were found guilty in connection with a high‑profile graft case brought by the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) that stemmed from alleged misappropriation of public funds and breach of procurement procedures at the SLRSA. The charges, filed in 2019, included misappropriation of state funds and conspiracy to commit corruption offences, and involved inflated payments for customs duties and related services, according to reporting on the original indictment.
The case also implicated a former National Revenue Authority officer who previously pleaded guilty and was fined in related charges.
The convictions underscore Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to hold senior officials accountable in corruption‑related cases, a priority of the ACC under Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala.
Details of the specific sentences imposed on the former executive director and procurement manager were not immediately available. Further reporting is expected as official court records are released.
