Lawyer M S. Koroma one of the defense Lawyers for former deputy minister of finance Patricia Laverly has on Wednesday, 5th February 2025 renewed his application for an extended medical leave .
According him, his client has still not recovered yet and needed sometime to regain his health condition.
Koroma told the Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Santigie Bangura that he had renewed his application at the High Court for the extension of the accused medical leaved to 3 months.
He told the court that the extension of time for his client whom he said is in Ghana was for her to continue her medical treatment.
It could be recalled that the Court Order for a medical leave was granted in the High Court by Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Steven on the 6th December 2024, which allowed the accused Patricia Laverley should travel to Ghana to undertake ‘Coronary Angiogram’ procedure at the St. Michael’s specialist hospital Lapaz Accra in Ghana since such medical facility is not available in Sierra Leone.
State Lawyer Yusuf Isaac Sesay did not objected to the application made by defence Lawyer Koroma.
Magistrate Santigie Bangura therefore adjourned the matter to the 5 May 2025.
Patricia Laverley faces two count charges of inflicting ‘grevious bodily harm contrary to section 20 of the offense against the person’s act of 1861 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to law.’
The charge sheet indicated that Patricia Laverley on the 12 November, 2024 at State House, in Freetown assaulted Nabella Farida Tunis who is the Minister of Tourism ‘’with intent to inflict grevious bodily’’ harm on her.
The charge sheet further that ‘’Patricia Laverley on the same day and place assaulted Nabella Farida Tunis in a manner thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm’’.
