A legal team representing the Kenema Old Students Association (KOSA) has filed a lawsuit against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Sierra Leone over the cancellation of a student’s 2025 WASSCE result, organisers said.
The suit, led by lawyer Mohamed Pa-Momo Fofanah, challenges WAEC’s decision to cancel the result of Unpha Lamin Koroma, a student of Government Secondary School Kenema, who had reportedly scored six A1s, two B2s and one B3.

According to KOSA, more than 50 candidates initially had their results withheld when the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results were released, including Koroma’s, without explanation.
The association said WAEC later informed the school that it was investigating alleged examination malpractice, but subsequently released the withheld results without finding evidence of wrongdoing.
However, KOSA said that weeks after the release, WAEC unilaterally cancelled Koroma’s result without providing any reason.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
KOSA said it had filed the writ of summons to seek judicial review of the decision, adding that it was confident in the country’s justice system.
WAEC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
