A magistrate court in southern Sierra Leone has remanded popular rapper Alhaji Amadu Bah, widely known as Boss LAJ, to prison in Bo following developments in an ongoing legal case that has drawn public attention.
The artist was taken into custody after court proceedings linked to allegations of public order offences and insulting remarks directed at Kenema’s mayor. The matter has been adjourned to April 8 for further hearing, according to local media reports.
In a related development, police reportedly barred journalists from covering the proceedings at the Bo Magistrate Court, raising concerns among media practitioners about access and transparency in the handling of the case.
No official explanation was immediately provided by authorities for restricting media access to the courtroom.
The case has sparked debate over freedom of expression and press access in Sierra Leone, particularly given the high-profile nature of the accused.
Authorities have yet to issue a comprehensive statement on both the court’s decision and the reported restrictions on journalists.
