The United States Embassy in Sierra Leone has partnered with the Supreme Islamic Council of Sierra Leone (SICRSL) to tackle visa fraud and safeguard the integrity of its visa system, officials said on Tuesday.
Over 200 imams and Muslim community leaders attended a Visa Security and Anti-Fraud Workshop organized jointly by the Embassy and SICRSL.
“Visas must be used for their intended purpose, as the integrity of our system is essential to protecting American interests,” said Chargé d’Affaires Jared Yancey.
The workshop is part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. to strengthen ties with Sierra Leone while ensuring compliance with visa regulations and preventing fraudulent practices.
Community leaders were briefed on proper visa procedures, reporting mechanisms, and the potential consequences of misuse.
The Embassy said it will continue engaging local stakeholders to enhance awareness and collaboration in promoting lawful travel and preventing immigration fraud.
