A motorbike delegation from Burkina Faso has arrived in Sierra Leone as part of a regional tour aimed at strengthening cultural ties and cooperation among West African nations, police said on Monday.
The group of 22 riders, part of the Burkina Faso Motorbike Association, entered Sierra Leone on Sunday after traveling through Mali and Guinea. They are expected to continue their journey on Tuesday to Liberia, Ivory Coast and later return to Burkina Faso, according to a statement from the Sierra Leone Police.
The government of Burkina Faso, through its honorary consul in Freetown, had requested security support for the visit, a request approved by Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“This tour forms part of an annual regional event undertaken by the Burkina Faso Motorbike Association with the objective of fostering cooperation, cultural exchange, and mutual collaboration among member countries in the sub-region,” the police statement said.
While in Sierra Leone, the delegation is expected to meet with local motorbike associations and participate in people-to-people exchanges.
Police assured the public that there was no cause for concern, saying adequate security arrangements had been put in place to safeguard both the visitors and the general public.
“The Sierra Leone Police remains committed to maintaining law and order, while promoting peace, security, and regional cooperation,” the statement added.
