By Feima Sesay Ibrahim Suma, a motor apprentice, has On Monday 7th October 2024, sent to prison by Magistrate Bangura of court No2 for allegedly stealing from Queen Elizabeth 11 Quay 810 bags cement all to the total value of NLe 125,550/00. The accused made his first appearance and was charged with two count charges of conspiracy to commit a crime contrary to law and Larceny by servant contrary to section 17(1a) of the larceny Act 1916. The particulars of offence for count one stated that the accused on Sunday 1st September, 2024, at Queen Elizabeth (11) Quay Freetown conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit larceny by servant. While count two added that the accused on the same date and place being servant employed by Zak Building materials did steal 810 bags of imported cement all to the total value of NLe 125,550/00 property of the said Zak Building materials. When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken. The prosecutor ASP Dahlia Wellington informed the court that her witnesses were absent and therefore she could not proceed in the circumstance and requested for an adjournment to subpoena them. She also presented to the court an affidavit in opposition to bail. Defense Counsel Samuel Wilson applied for bail on behalf of the accused. Magistrate Bangura refused the accused bail due to the serious nature of the offences charged and the quantum involved. The accused was sent to the male correctional facility while the matter was adjourned to 14th October 2024.

During the launching ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer Orange Sierra Leone Sekou Amadou Bah in his statement said it was a special day for them as a Company, adding that ‘Orange is here’ for their customers and all stakeholders that are interacting with them. CEO Bah furthered that they always have a brand signature that is in line with their commitment, adding that it was a proud and exciting moment as they pulled out their brand new signature. He furthered that the company always tried to go beyond telecom provider as they provide innovation to their customers. He added that Orange is here to stay with total commitment for everyone, stating that what they say is what they do and what they do is what they say. Mr. Bah further noted that the company was opening new avenues to improve on the services for their customers and also embracing change in collaboration to grow. He further explained in terms of Responsibility that the company keep their promise, act responsible and speak the truth. Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Morocco Takes Formal Leave of President Bio
By Aminaash Nyande Brima The incoming Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Alhaji Momodu Koroma, officially took leave of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House on Tuesday, 8th October 2024, before commencing his new diplomatic assignment. Ambassador Koroma, who was accompanied by his family, took leave along with the High Commissioner to Nigeria and the Ambassador to Senegal. President Bio congratulated the diplomats, expressing confidence in their ability to meet the country’s expectations and further strengthen Sierra Leone’s strategic relationships with their respective countries for mutual benefit. Alhaji Momodu Koroma brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in significant capacities within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the government of the late President Tejan Kabba. In addition to his political career, he has an academic background as a university professor, physicist, and environmentalist, underscoring his commitment to education, science, and environmental issues, particularly renewable energy and sustainability. During his tenure as Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Koroma played a pivotal role in managing the country’s international relations, helping to strengthen diplomatic ties with several nations. He also served as Minister of Presidential Affairs and Minister of Energy and Environment, where he focused on policy implementation, sustainable development, and the management of energy resources and environmental policies. A significant highlight of Koroma’s career was his involvement in establishing the Peacebuilding Fund for Sierra Leone in collaboration with the United Nations, which supported the country’s post-conflict recovery and reconciliation efforts. In 2007, Koroma ran as the SLPP’s vice-presidential candidate alongside Late Solomon Berewa, further demonstrating his influence within the party and national politics. As Sierra Leone’s second Ambassador to Morocco, following the tenure of H.E. Atumanni Dainkeh, Koroma’s expertise in economic diplomacy will be invaluable in enhancing bilateral relations, especially after recent trade agreements between Sierra Leone and Morocco. The Sierra Leone Embassy in Rabat was established on August 27th, 2021, and Ambassador Koroma’s extensive experience promises to strengthen the ties between the two nations.
