The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) and the Indian AkshayaShakti Welfare Association have set a new record in Asia with a 120-meter Peace Canvas, created as part of the Earth Day Peace Art Project. The initiative, which took place in Maharashtra, marks the first joint effort between the two organizations since signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Held under the theme “Together for Peace and a Better Earth: Countdown to 2030,” the event aimed to emphasize the urgency of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the next five years. The large-scale art piece was completed in just 40 minutes by 80 participants, including local artists, students, and citizens, and has been officially recognized by the Asia Book of Records.
Sujin Park, Regional Director of IWPG Global Region 5, described the event as more than just an art project. “This is the starting point for practical international peace solidarity,” she said. “IWPG will continue to create opportunities for collaboration through its global network.”
Mini Suboth, a representative of the AkshayaShakti Welfare Association, announced plans to divide the artwork into 1.5-meter segments to be donated to 80 schools across India. “We hope the children who see these artworks will be inspired to embrace the message of peace,” she stated.
IWPG, a globally recognized women’s NGO with consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UN Department of Global Communications, is committed to fostering peace through cultural initiatives, peace education, and advocacy for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
The Earth Day Peace Art Project serves as a powerful symbol of international cooperation, using art to promote a culture of peace and sustainability worldwide.
