Zainab Sheriff has been sentenced to 50 months imprisonment for incitement and denied bail throughout the trial. When power and influence tip the scales, truth becomes elusive and perilous.
Against the backdrop of ongoing Parliamentary debate on the National Intelligence and Security Bill, this conviction sends a chilling message: dissenting voices will face trials with blanket denial of bail.
Though the lambs may be silenced and the public conscience scarred, the pens will keep screeching, and carrying messages no gavel and no bullet can ever bury.
