The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) on the 24th August, 2020 hosted senior authorities of the Road Maintenance Fund Authority (RMFA) at WARDC Headquarters in Waterloo, Western Rural District.
In his statement, the Deputy CEO for RMFA said that the meeting was to Consult, Strengthen the relationship between the two institutions and to revamp operational plans with Local Councils in the country on RMFA road Projects, Budget, Funding and implementations.
In his response, Chairman of the Western Area Rural District Council, Kasho J. Holland Cole thanked the team from the RMFA and briefed them on background of partnership and on how WARDC has been implementing RMFA funded road projects in the Western Rural District.
He said that he is not against RMFA timeline and proposals but appealed to the team that Local Councils should be allowed to do payment to the contractors so that Councils will have total control over the contractors with strict monitoring from RMFA.
In his statement, WARDC Chief Administrator, Raman Tom Farmar said that Council is aware of RMFA value for money in roads project, so Council is always ready to support the RMFA for sustainable road maintenance projects.
CA Farmar made reference to the late disbursement of funds from RMFA to pay performing contractors.
He also joined the Chairman to appeal to RMFA to allow local Councils to make payment to the contractors as that is very important in promoting Local Governance in the country and to have control over the contractors.
