The United Arab Emirates and Sierra Leone have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following talks between their presidents in Abu Dhabi, according to a joint statement released on Tuesday.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio on Monday, where the two leaders discussed ways to advance cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, infrastructure development, and tourism.
The joint statement said the meeting reflected the strong and growing relationship between the UAE and Sierra Leone and underscored their shared commitment to expanding diplomatic, economic, and development collaboration. Both sides highlighted the potential for increased investment in Sierra Leone’s emerging sectors, including energy, agriculture, and tourism, aimed at supporting economic growth and job creation.
President Bio also emphasized Sierra Leone’s commitment to creating a favorable business environment for foreign investors, citing recent regulatory reforms, investment incentives, and ongoing infrastructure projects designed to facilitate trade and commercial partnerships.
The two leaders reviewed existing partnerships and explored opportunities to deepen collaboration, while reaffirming their support for dialogue, mutual respect, and international cooperation. The joint statement did not provide specific details on new agreements or timelines but said both sides expressed readiness to continue high-level engagement to further consolidate relations.
The meeting comes amid increased diplomatic and economic engagement between Sierra Leone and Gulf states, as Freetown seeks to attract foreign direct investment and strengthen international partnerships to accelerate post-pandemic recovery and long-term sustainable development.
