A magistrate in Sierra Leone on Friday ordered two men held in custody on charges of possessing a firearm without a licence, court officials said.
Mohamed Kamara and Mustapha Fredrick Conteh appeared before Magistrate Mamakoh Saio Kallon at Pademba Road Court No.3 in Freetown. They face six counts, including possession, custody and control of a firearm without authorisation, police said.
Prosecutors allege the defendants were found with a single-barrel shotgun, serial number 133477, at Mothaim village in Freetown between Jan. 1, 2023 and May 19, 2025.
No pleas were taken. Inspector T. Macfoy, for the prosecution, sought an adjournment, saying witnesses were unavailable.
Kallon refused bail, citing the seriousness of the offences, and remanded both men to Freetown’s male correctional centre. The case was adjourned to Sept. 23 for hearing.
