The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority says it has seized an aircraft which landed at the Lungi international airport with 4 crew members on board . A statement from the Authority said .
The aircraft, according to the statement, landed at the airport without a landing permit and schedule which caused the security forces to impound it and arrested a four crew members who were on board the plane .
Police sources say the 4 people are considered suspects and are being questioned by the Sierra Leone police since it has been rumoured that the plane might have been carrying suspected substance .
A source at the airport told this newspaper that a thorough search has been conducted on the plane by a joint team of security forces and aviation workers to ascertain what the plan was carrying when it eventually touched the soils of Sierra Leone without any schedule or landing permit.
The incident is reported to have occurred on the 19th September 2024.
The public is frightened by this arrest and has caused a huge alarm because of the present security situation in the country in the last one year.
This is not the first time a suspected cocaine plane has been arrested at the airport, it happened in the last government of Ernest Bai Koroma when a huge quantity of cocaine was arrested in a plan that landed at the airport.
A suspected container was also reported to have been carrying a suspected cocaine substance in Freetown and which was later arrested by the then Police Boss, Ambrose Sovula .
The shipment container was later stationed at the Kingtom police barracks area under the guise of inspection and surveillance by the police.
But a statement from the police Boss at the time Sovula said there was nothing like drugs on it after through search and inspection.
Police source said that the persons arrested been transferred to Freetown for further investigation.
