Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio on Tuesday received Cardinal Arrigo Miglio of the Holy Roman Church, who is on a pastoral visit to the country.

Archbishop Edward Tamba Charles of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Freetown said the visit includes an inspection of the Love Bridge Hospital in Lokomasama Chiefdom, Port Loko District. The hospital, established more than 15 years ago, provides critical health services to underserved communities, with annual surgical missions conducted by medical teams from Italy.

Cardinal Miglio conveyed condolences to President Bio on the recent passing of his sister, Alice Josephine Tucker, and praised the hospital’s compassion-driven approach to healthcare. He also carried the blessings of Pope Leo XIV, noting he would brief the Pope on his visit upon returning to Italy.

President Bio welcomed the Cardinal, highlighting the Catholic Church’s role in spiritual guidance and healthcare delivery, and reaffirmed the importance of faith in political leadership, noting his weekly prayers with Catholic priests.
