Sierra Leone’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Morie Lengor Esq., has called for deeper international security collaboration to address emerging global threats, during his address at the XIII International Meeting of High-Ranking Representatives in Charge of Security Matters, held in Moscow from May 27 to 29.

Speaking at the high-level global summit, Minister Lengor emphasized the importance of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in tackling modern security challenges, including terrorism, cybercrime, transnational crime, and climate-induced threats.

“In our African tradition, we say ‘we hang heads,’ meaning we come together to think and find lasting solutions,” he told delegates from over 100 countries. “No single nation, no matter how powerful, can ensure global peace alone. Even the smallest nations have an important role to play.”

The minister conveyed greetings from President Julius Maada Bio and expressed appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the people of the Russian Federation for hosting the annual forum, which he described as a “laudable initiative” that strengthens global security dialogue.

On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Lengor held strategic meetings with his counterparts from Guinea, The Gambia, and Somalia. Discussions with Guinea focused on transborder crime and the long-standing Yenga issue. In talks with Gambian officials, the minister addressed concerns over Sierra Leonean nationals allegedly involved in criminal activities, particularly related to the narcotic “Kush.” The meeting with Somalia centered on combating human trafficking.

Minister Lengor also engaged with a global cybersecurity organization to explore potential collaboration on digital security threats, reflecting Sierra Leone’s increasing focus on cyber defense.

The Sierra Leonean delegation included Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo, Head of Chancery Mr. Ibrahim Saspo Sankoh, and Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr. John Bosco Momoh.

The Moscow summit concluded on May 29 with security leaders reaffirming the need for shared action on global peace, cyber threats, and regional cooperation frameworks.
