In a bid to boost institutional development and expand access to clean water across Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) held a high-level meeting with a delegation from Eco Bank Sierra Leone on Thursday, May 29. The engagement, held in SALWACO’s boardroom at Tower Hill, focused on potential partnership and investment opportunities.
The meeting brought together key SALWACO officials, including Board Chairman Joe Jonathan Ndanema and Acting Managing Director Apostle Dr. Albert Harrison Harvey, alongside a strategic team from Eco Bank.
Welcoming the Eco Bank delegation, Dr. Harvey emphasized that the dialogue marked a turning point for SALWACO’s growth agenda. He expressed the company’s readiness to collaborate fully and work towards shared development goals.
During the session, SALWACO’s Director of Research, Planning and Policy, Saffa SK Bockarie, delivered a presentation outlining the agency’s progress in improving water service delivery and mapping out future targets in need of investment support.
Eco Bank representatives responded positively, urging SALWACO to maintain strategic management and focus on sustainability. They clarified that while some investments might come through grants, long-term profitability and business viability should be prioritized.
Board Chairman Ndanema described the engagement as critical and committed to relaying the discussions to political leadership to ensure alignment with national development goals.
Director of Project Management, Ing. Yankuba Tarawally, suggested looking to successful models in Kenya and Ghana as blueprints for implementation in Sierra Leone, while Commercial Services Director Mohamed Aziz Waggay affirmed the institution’s capacity to manage the commercial aspects of the proposed partnership.
Other key SALWACO participants included Director of Finance Frank Lahai Kamara, Director of ICT Moses Daniel Kon Sopay, Finance Manager Neneh Kamara, Capital and Development Manager Ing. Marilyn George, Logistics Manager Daphne Greenwood, and several senior officials.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to follow up with formal correspondences, signaling the start of what both institutions hope will be a transformative partnership for water infrastructure and services in Sierra Leo
