Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Energy said on Tuesday it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi-based Global South Utilities (GSU) to explore renewable energy projects of up to 500 megawatts.
The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai, tasks GSU with conducting feasibility studies for projects aimed at supporting Sierra Leone’s energy transition and powering key sectors including mining, agriculture, and manufacturing.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by President Julius Maada Bio.
Ali Alshimmari, GSU’s CEO, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to practical renewable solutions that strengthen industry, expand access, and enhance resilience.
Sierra Leone’s Energy Minister Cyril Grant described the MoU as a “crucial milestone” in transforming the country’s energy sector, adding that the collaboration will help drive economic development while supporting a low-carbon future.
