Sierra Leone’s Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has ordered reruns in some wards and upheld results in others following dozens of petitions challenging the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) lower-level internal elections.
The commission said it received complaints from 37 party members covering 72 wards across the Western Area, Southern, Eastern, Northern and North-West regions.
Hearings into the petitions were held between April 8 and April 18 in Freetown, Bo, Kono, Makeni and Port Loko, the PPRC said.
In its ruling, the electoral watchdog said reruns would be conducted in wards where there was evidence of breaches, while results in other areas would stand.
The commission added that some positions were nullified where candidates were found to be ineligible.
The PPRC said that while several petitions alleged violence, venue changes and administrative lapses, only cases involving clear violations — such as denial of participation rights or breaches of eligibility rules — justified reruns or cancellations.
The outcome is expected to shape the APC’s internal restructuring process as the party prepares for future political contests.
