Sierra Leone Records 45 New Mpox Cases as Active Infections Near 1,000

The Government of Sierra Leone has confirmed 45 new Mpox cases, bringing the cumulative national tally to 3,782 since the outbreak began. According to the latest update released at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, the country currently has 958 active cases.

The update, published by the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) and Ministry of Health and Sanitation, also reported 72 new recoveries, increasing the total number of recovered patients to 2,804. The death toll remains at 20.

Gender distribution data shows that the virus continues to affect both sexes almost equally, with 1,802 confirmed female cases and 1,980 male cases.

Western Urban District remains the hardest-hit area with 2,259 confirmed cases, followed by Western Rural (757), Bombali (218), and Port Loko (138). Other districts such as Bo (66), Kenema (93), Kono (57), and Tonkolili (36) have also recorded significant case numbers. The least affected districts include Falaba (4), Karene (9), and Pujehun (11).

The Ministry is urging the public to remain vigilant and follow all health guidelines. Citizens are encouraged to report suspected cases by calling the national emergency line at 117.
