Sierra Leone’s Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) said it will implement a temporary power shutdown in parts of Freetown on Saturday to allow for the safe transportation of a turbine to a key power facility.
The outage, scheduled between 1500 and 1900 GMT on April 18, will affect areas across the eastern part of the capital, from Blackhall Road to Waterloo, the utility said in a statement.

EDSA said the shutdown is required to enable the safe movement of the turbine from Water Quay to the Nant Power Station in Kissy Dockyard, adding that all 33kV distribution lines in the affected areas would be switched off during the operation.
Preliminary safety measures, including a test run and route clearance, have already been carried out to minimise disruption during transportation, it said.
The utility described the outage as a necessary step to support infrastructure development aimed at improving electricity supply and service reliability.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas were advised to take precautionary measures ahead of the planned interruption.
