Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has held talks with a visiting Russian delegation to explore opportunities for cultural and educational cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, held on March 10 at the ministry, was arranged through the Office of the Vice President and attended by Member of Parliament Sahr Emerson Lamina, according to a statement from the ministry.
Lamina welcomed the delegation and said the engagement created an opportunity to discuss potential partnerships aimed at strengthening cultural ties between Sierra Leone and Russia.
He said discussions focused on possible cultural exchange programmes, including presentations on Russian culture and initiatives that could benefit both countries.
Natalia Krasvoskaia, speaking on behalf of the delegation, highlighted the work of the Center for Public Diplomacy in promoting cultural diplomacy and dialogue between Russia and African countries.
She said the organisation facilitates youth and women’s dialogue initiatives, educational exchanges and broader cultural programmes across Africa.
Krasvoskaia also said the centre was considering expanding its presence on the continent, including the possibility of opening a representation office in Sierra Leone to support cooperation in education, science, technology and culture.
Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Nabeela Tunis welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the government’s openness to partnerships that support tourism development and cultural exchange.
Permanent Secretary Judith C. Jones outlined the ministry’s mandate and ongoing programmes, while Mohamed Jalloh, director of tourism travel and exchange programmes, highlighted areas where collaboration could be developed.
Both sides expressed optimism that the discussions could lead to stronger cooperation in cultural and tourism-related initiatives.
