Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone National Deaf Football Team is making an urgent appeal to the government and key sports authorities for support ahead of the 13th Edition of the West Africa Deaf Football Tournament, scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, from August 15 to 31, 2025.
With final training sessions fast approaching, the team is seeking immediate access to the SLFA Football Academy pitch to complete their preparations. The team leadership has called on the Ministry of Sports, the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), and the National Sports Authority (NSA) to intervene and address what they describe as a pressing national duty.
“This tournament is not just about sports; it’s about national pride, inclusion, and representation on the regional stage,” said officials of the Deaf Football Team, who are determined to make Sierra Leone proud in Nigeria.
In addition to government engagement, the team has reached out to Leone Rock Metal Group, the sole sponsor of the Sierra Leone Premier League and a consistent supporter of national football development. The team is hoping the company will extend its support to their upcoming international outing, continuing its tradition of promoting inclusive sports across the country.
“We have visited Leone Rock Company to seek sponsorship for our trip,” said officials from the team. “We are optimistic that the company will once again show leadership and support grassroots and disabled sports as they have always done.”
Despite the challenges, the team remains hopeful and committed. They are appealing to both public and private sector partners to help make their participation in the regional tournament a reality.
