Sierra Leone Bar Association faces regulatory action over AGM delay

– Sierra Leone’s National Investment Board (NIB) has intervened in a governance dispute within the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), directing that its long-delayed Annual General Meeting (AGM) proceed as scheduled on June 5–6 in Lungi, Port Loko District.
The move follows an urgent application by Ebunoluwa Finda Tengbe, a member of the association, after the SLBA executive issued a notice on June 1 announcing an indefinite postponement of the meeting.

In its ruling, the National Investment Board said the postponement effectively amounted to a cancellation and breached provisions of the Companies Act, 2009 as well as the association’s Articles of Association.
The regulator’s directive seeks to restore compliance with statutory governance requirements and ensure that the professional body proceeds with its mandated decision-making processes.
The dispute highlights growing tensions within the SLBA over internal governance and adherence to corporate and legal obligations.
