Sierra Leone Artist & Politician Natasha Beckley Released on Bail Amid Drug Investigation

More News

Sierra Leonean artist and political figure Natasha Beckley has been released on bail after being declared wanted by police over alleged drug-related offenses, her lawyer said, in a case that has drawn intense public attention and debate.

Beckley’s lawyer, Abdul Karim Kamara, confirmed her release but declined to disclose the bail terms.

“The conditions are private,” Kamara told Truth Media, refusing to elaborate on the specifics of her temporary freedom.

The statement has fueled speculation among the public and online commentators, who have closely followed the case due to Beckley’s celebrity status and growing political influence.

Police have yet to release official details about the nature of the investigation or the evidence against Beckley. Authorities have also not confirmed whether formal charges will be filed.

Beckley, a former Miss Sierra Leone turned hip-hop artist and entrepreneur, is known for her outspoken advocacy for women and youth empowerment. In recent years, she has transitioned into politics, contesting for a parliamentary seat under the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) before later expressing independent political ambitions.

Her social media presence and involvement in civic causes have made her a high-profile public figure, with many supporters online calling for transparency and due process in the ongoing investigation. Others have criticized the secrecy surrounding the bail conditions, urging law enforcement to treat all suspects equally regardless of status.

The case comes amid growing public concern about the rise of drug use and trafficking in Sierra Leone, particularly the spread of the synthetic substance known as Kush, which authorities say has devastated communities and youth livelihoods.

Beckley has not made any public statement since her release.
