Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has reinforced collaboration with the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NaSSIT) in Kono district to promote integrity, accountability, and transparency in public service delivery.

The engagement, led by Acting ACC Regional Director Andrew Demby on March 19, focused on preventive measures, systems strengthening, and monitoring high-risk areas including benefit administration, claims processing, and employer compliance in remittances.

Demby cautioned that under-declaration of employee salaries by employers undermines government revenue and warned NaSSIT staff to declare assets in line with the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008 (amended 2019). He also briefed them on the Whistleblower and Witness Protection Regulation 2025 and recent amendments to the Anti-Corruption Act, which strengthen sanctions, enable settlements to recover stolen funds, and allow the halting of public contracts deemed not in the national interest.

Patricia J. Sannoh, ACC Public Education Officer for Kono, urged staff to resist and report corruption, citing toll-free lines 077-985985/986986 for confidential reporting.

NaSSIT Kono Manager Jaka Jim Lappia pledged full cooperation with the ACC and said the trust is planning to extend social security coverage to informal sector workers, including petty traders and motorcycle riders, to cushion unemployment.
