President Bio Arrives in France for UN Ocean Conference, Set to Champion Marine Protection

More News

President Julius Maada Bio has arrived in Nice, France, to attend the United Nations 3rd Ocean Conference, a global summit convened to advance ocean conservation and Sustainable Development Goal 14 — the protection and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources.

The high-level conference, scheduled to host heads of state, scientists, environmentalists, and civil society leaders, will focus on coordinated global action to combat threats to marine ecosystems, including climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.

President Bio is expected to deliver a major statement during one of the key debates, where he will reaffirm Sierra Leone’s commitment to ocean governance, climate resilience, and the sustainable management of its marine resources. His participation highlights Sierra Leone’s growing engagement in global environmental diplomacy and the country’s push for stronger international cooperation on ocean-based solutions to development challenges.

On his arrival at Côte d’Azur Airport, President Bio was received by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to France, Dr. Mohammed Kanja Sesay, and Deputy Ambassador Madam Mamadi Ngobeh-Kamara.

The UN Ocean Conference is seen as a crucial platform for countries to align on marine protection policies and to share innovative approaches to safeguarding the health of the world’s oceans — a mission that is especially critical for coastal and island nations like Sierra Leone.
