Sierra Leone Police said on Thursday that one of their officers is among five suspects arrested in connection with a fatal armed robbery at a fuel station in the northern city of Makeni.

The attack, which occurred earlier this week, left a fuel station attendant dead after being shot, sparking public outrage and prompting an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Head of the CID, Assistant Commissioner of Police Allieu Jalloh, said forensic investigators recovered spent bullet shells from the crime scene, which were later traced to a firearm linked to Police Constable Micheal Lengor Sesay, service number 15768.

“The investigation established a connection between the recovered ammunition and the officer,” Jalloh said, adding that the suspect had been taken into custody along with four other individuals.

Police said the case has raised serious concerns about criminal infiltration within the force and reiterated their commitment to internal accountability.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Police did not immediately disclose whether formal charges had been filed or when the suspects would be brought before a court.

The Sierra Leone Police said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
