The Vice Chancellor of Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) has acknowledged recruitment and promotion irregularities after an independent investigative report revealed widespread malpractice at the institution.

The 14-page report, compiled by a committee led by Prof. Miriam Conteh-Morgan, alleged score-sheet tampering, cronyism, and the victimization of senior academic staff, claiming that legal protocols were bypassed to consolidate administrative control.
According to the report, appointments and promotions were frequently awarded based on personal connections rather than merit, undermining institutional standards and staff morale.
University authorities have confirmed that measures are being considered to address the findings, though no disciplinary actions have yet been publicly announced.
Observers say the revelations could prompt calls for broader reforms in Sierra Leone’s higher education sector, particularly regarding transparency and accountability in staff recruitment and promotion processes.
