Joseph Abdulai Kamara a Businessman and Abdul Sesay a driver have been sent to prison by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No.1 for an alleged theft of NLe 243,500 at Access Bank.
The accused persons had been charged with three counts ranging from Conspiracy to defraud, Obtaining money by false pretenses and Causing money to be paid to another by means of fraud all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the indictments on counts one, the accused persons on a date between 15th and 20th October 2023 at Access Bank, Wilkinson Road in Freetown, with intent to defraud conspired together and with other persons unknown to Obtain money by false pretenses.
Police further alleged on count two that the first accused Abdulai Kamara on the above date and place with intent to defraud obtained the sum of Le 118,500 and the sum US$ 5,000 equivalent to the sum of Le 125,000 all to the total sum of Le 243,500 from Moses Mohamed Kamara by falsely pretending that they have 814 six tyre truck for sale, knowing same to be false.
The third count added that the second accused person on the above date and place fradulently caused Moses Mohamed Kamara to pay the above amount to Joseph Abdulai Kamara who falsely pretended to have one 814 six tyre truck for sale, knowing same to be false
When the charges were read and explained to the accused persons they pleaded not guilty
The prosecutor ASP Ibrahim S. Mansaray informed the court that his witness was present but however sought for an adjournment for him to have proper conference with his witness.
Lawyer Zachariah Azibo Kanu applied for bail on behalf of the accused persons pursuant to section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Magistrate Kekura refused bail and sent both accused persons on remand before adjourning the matter to the 16th of January 2024 for further hearing.
