LEGAL LINK Donates Millions in Food Items to the Old People’s Home and Manaheim Orphanage on Valentine’s Day

By: Sulaiman Stom Koroma.

In a heartwarming gesture aimed at spreading love and compassion, The Christian Lawyers Center also known as LEGAL LINK on Wednesday, February 24, 2024, extended its caring hand by donating food items worth millions of Leones to the Old People’s Home and the Manaheim orphanage in Freetown.

The event was organized as part of LEGAL LINK’s annual Valentine’s Day celebration, which seeks to uplift the spirits of the less privileged in society.

Rashid Dumbuya Esq. is the Executive Director at Legal Link and a renowned lawyer, he said that they embarked on this philanthropic endeavor to address the pressing needs of orphan children and elderly who are not only deprived but relying on the support of society to sustain their lives.

He said that the monies used for this donation were received largely from cash donations given by students in the Faculty of Law, FBC, philanthropists, legal interns, lawyers, and friends of LEGAL LINK and were used to purchase bags of rice, onions, tomatoes, oil, Maggie, washing soap, bar soap, standing fans and a lot more.

Lawyer Dumbuya emphasized that such support is crucial for society, underscoring the responsibility of the legal profession in providing voluntary services, urging both individuals and fellow lawyers to extend their support to the less privileged, by providing pro bono and other services to them.

As Valentine’s Day continues to inspire acts of kindness and love, LEGAL LINK’s initiative serves as a reminder that supporting the less fortunate is not only a responsibility but also a source of profound fulfillment.

Pastor Ken Bockarie, the Board Chair of LEGAL LINK made prayers for the old people and orphans while Sarafina who is a Deputy class Rep, spoke on behalf of the student volunteers.

Both the Old People’s Home and the orphanage expressed some of their challenges which include, water facility, generator, lack of ambulance, a stationed medical doctor, shortage of medical supplies, beddings, toys for the kids, staff, and clothing.

Legal Link is an advocacy group that seeks to provide legal assistance to religious communities and vulnerable groups in Sierra Leone through legal advocacy, public interest litigation, public and private sector accountability, compliance to good governance, democracy and rule of law, and ensuring respect for fundamental human rights enshrined in both domestic and international law.
