The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has completed a two-week course in Sierra Leone aimed at boosting cooperation among security agencies in tackling organised crime and other cross-border threats, officials said on Friday.

The Collaborative Policing Course, held at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) from Sept. 8-19, brought together senior officers from the police, armed forces, fire service, corrections and immigration departments.

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Senalor Yawlui, praised participants at the closing ceremony in Freetown for their commitment and urged them to put their new skills into practice. “As we confront today’s complex security challenges, I am sure you will apply these competencies within your institutions,” he said.

Assistant Inspector General of Police Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray, speaking on behalf of Sierra Leone’s police chief, stressed the importance of inter-agency cooperation in fighting human trafficking, organised crime and other threats.

Chief Superintendent Alphonso Abdulai Fambulleh, representing participants, described the training as “nothing short of excellent” and lauded the facilitators’ efforts.

Certificates were presented at the ceremony, which capped a programme designed to strengthen collaboration on security issues across Sierra Leone’s law enforcement and defence agencies.
