<strong>Indian National Sent To Prison For Over NLe 1Bn. Theft</strong>

 Mahesh Muri Lund, an Indian National and also an employee of Star Light Building Material was on Thursday 18 May 2023, sent on remand by magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No1 for allegedly stealing over Le One Billion from the said entity.

The accused was arraigned before the court on a count charge of larceny by servant contrary to section 17 (1) (a) of the larceny act of 1916.

The charge sheet indicated that the accused on Saturday 8 April 2023 at Sir Samuel Lewis Road Aberdeen in Freetown, being a servant employed by Pawan Putrah / Star Light Building materials Company stole the sum of one million, six hundred thousand new Leones (NLe 1,600,000) property of the Pawan Putrah.

After the charges were read and explained to the accused, he pleaded guilty of the offense.

He however stated that he has ten thousand dollars ($10,000) in India and therefore wants an opportunity to call his relatives so that they will send the money and will pay on the next adjourned date. The accused was unrepresented in court and so no bail application was made on his behalf.

He was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to Monday 22 May 2023.
