More News

‘’ Freetown City Council continues to expand the green spaces in our city, we are pleased with the progress being made at Hannah Benka-Coker Street. It is still a work in progress but we were able to share the vision for this space with delegates from the African Urban Heat Summit during a field tour on Friday.’’ This is a statement from the Mayor of the Freetown City Council, Yvonne Aki Sawyer.

She said her team had the opportunity to take a photograph with the youth who have been employed to do this work!

‘’With pergolas and benches, bougainvillea and palm trees, when this new green space is completed, it will offer shade from the sun and inspiration to residents to value our trees, shrubs, flowers and grass. Thanks to Guma for providing us with water at the start of the planting process!’’

She added that the project is being Funded with support from the World Bank PSSNYE project managed by NACSA, and with the collaboration of SLRA as FCC converts rights-of-way into green spaces and inserts plant boxes on pavements, Freetonians can expect to see more green spaces established in the city in the coming months!
