Footballer Jailed Five Years for Mobile Phone Theft

More News

A footballer, Abdul Sesay, was on Monday sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah of the Pademba Road Magistrate’s Court No. 1 in Freetown for stealing a mobile phone belonging to the court registrar.

Sesay was convicted of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916, after admitting to stealing a silver Samsung Galaxy A15 valued at twelve thousand new Leones from Bakisa Massaquoi, the registrar of the same court. The theft occurred on September 16, 2025, at Magistrate Court No. 1, Pademba Road.

Prosecutor Inspector Mabel Tarawalie told the court that the accused took the phone while proceedings were ongoing. She presented both the caution and charge statements made by the convict to police investigators.

Inspector Tarawalie further informed the court that Sesay was not a first-time offender, having been recently released from prison under a presidential pardon before committing the new offence.

In mitigation, Sesay pleaded for mercy. However, Magistrate Jah noted that leniency would not serve justice in light of the convict’s repeated offences.

“The accused is not a first-time offender. He benefitted from a presidential pardon and has reoffended. I therefore impose a custodial sentence,” Magistrate Jah ruled.

He sentenced Abdul Sesay to five years’ imprisonment.
