Sierra Leone Correctional Service Dismisses Officers For Drug Trafficking

The Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) Management has in a press release dated Monday 22nd April 2024 said that their attention has been drawn to a video making rounds on social media of one Corrections Officer – 2CCO Musa Samura (2855), who was caught with a packaged substance suspected to be “marijuana” in his possession by the Gate Supervisor on duty, at the main entrance of the Freetown Male Correctional Centre (Pademba Road) at 06:45hrs on Sunday the 21st April, 2024.

The action of the said officer according to them contravenes Section 22 (a) of the 2014 SLS Act which states “Any Corrections Officer who without lawful authority- knowingly allows any intoxicating liquor, tobacco, hemp, drug, opiate, money, clothing, provisions, letter, document or other article to be sold to or received from or used by or on behalf of any inmate… commits an offence…”
The said officer has been dismissed from the Service and handed over to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for further investigation.

Similarly so, four other Corrections Officers have been dismissed from the Service regarding drugs related and trafficking offences. The said Officers include:

  1. 2CCO Alimamy Bangura (3814)
  2. 3CCO Alhassan Bangura (3974)
  3. 3CCO Alpha Morray Kargbo (4226)
  4. 3CCO Alimamy Kamara (3751)
The SLCS has however assured the public of its continued commitment towards upholding practices aimed at ensuring safety in all Correctional Centres and the fight against drugs.
