The Commonwealth has joined a high-level international mission to Sierra Leone aimed at supporting political dialogue and promoting inclusive governance amid ongoing tensions over post-election reforms.
The initiative is part of efforts by international partners known as the Moral Guarantors of the Agreement for National Unity, which were established to support implementation of a post-election peace framework.
Deputy Secretary-General Tanmaya Lal will represent the Commonwealth in the mission, officials said.
The engagement comes as concerns persist over the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and related recommendations from a Tripartite Committee process set up after Sierra Leone’s disputed 2023 elections.

International partners involved in the process have described the initiative as an effort to restore trust, strengthen democratic institutions and encourage inclusive political participation.
Sierra Leone has faced recurring political tensions in recent years, with opposition parties calling for greater transparency in electoral processes and governance reforms.
The mission is expected to continue consultations with political stakeholders, civil society and government representatives in the coming weeks.
