Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Professor David John Francis, has embarked on agriculture in line with President Julius Maada Bio’s ambitious priority for sustainable food self-sufficiency in the country.
This move, according to the Chief Minister was not only to motivate other state actors but to use agriculture as an engine for economic growth.
Yesterday, 12/09/2020, Chief Minister, Professor David Francis visited his 444 acres of Inland Valley Swamp rice farm in Blama in the Small Bo Chiefdom, Kenema District.
His visit was to start the new rice harvest of the 3-months rapid yield hybrid nutritious variety that is now available in the market for the affordable price of Le200,000 for 50kg.
ECO Rice is now the cheapest, affordable high-quality and nutritious rice in Sierra Leone today. This has also created job opportunities for Sierra Leoneans.
Today, a huge number of young people have gained employment as a result of this investment.
