Businessman Sent To Prison For Murder

Mousa Sewa, a businessman, was on Wednesday 16 October 2024 sent to prison by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 for allegedly killing one Massah Massaquoi at Makeni city.

The accused made his first appearance and was arraigned before the court on a count charge of Murder contrary to section of 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861 as repealed and replaced by Section 1 (a) to the Schedule of the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2022, Act No 6 of 2022

According to the indictment, the accused on Sunday 18th August 2024, at Mankneh Qcell Pole, Makeni City, murdered Massah Massaquoi.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken because the offense charged was serious.

The prosecutor
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Dialla Wellington, after reading the charge sought for a short adjournment, indicating that her witnesses were absent in court but would endeavor they be in court on the next adjourned date.

Defense counsel A.P Juah during proceedings pleaded with the Magistrate to admonish the prosecution to ensure that they had a speedy trial as the offense leveled against his client was a serious one.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.

The matter was adjourned to the 21st October 2024 for further hearing.
