Participants in the Budapest–Bamako Rally on Monday reached the finish line in Sierra Leone, marking the end of one of the world’s longest amateur endurance rallies.

The rally concluded at Gigibonta Car Park in Lumley, where drivers and crew were welcomed by residents, tourism officials and supporters as vehicles completed the final leg of the transcontinental journey.
Tourism Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis greeted the teams at the finish line, presenting participants with traditional Sierra Leonean scarves. Rally coordinator Andrew Szabo oversaw the closing ceremony, during which certificates were issued to drivers and crew members.
Often described as the world’s largest amateur rally, the Budapest–Bamako event spans thousands of kilometres across Europe and Africa, combining off-road endurance, cultural exchange and humanitarian activities.
Organisers said the extension of the rally to Freetown highlights Sierra Leone’s efforts to promote itself as a tourism destination and reflects growing confidence in the country’s security and infrastructure.
Tourism officials say the rally provides international exposure and supports local businesses, while offering participants opportunities to engage with communities along the route.
