Brother kills Brother Over Water.

Francis Conteh who allegedly killed his brother, Ibrahim Conteh while they were fighting over a bucket of water, on Thursday 9 July 2020 made his second appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Padempa road court No.2. 

Led in evidence by ASP Hawa Bah, the witness Yusuf Lamin recognized the accused and recalled that on that day around 7.00 am the deceased (Ibrahim) went to fetch water in a tap and after fetching the water he warned the accused not to take the water but the accused refused and said that he wants to use the water to wash his clothes.

The witness further that the accused then went and took the water and both of them started fighting.

He said that he was inside when he saw the accused pushed the deceased on the ground, adding that immediately the deceased fell he was unable to get up and that it was then that the accused rush at him and started removing the cloth of the deceased in order to clean him up.

” I then came to the scene and placed the deceased on my motorbike and rushed him to the hospital at Wilberforce Lumley Road”, he said.

He said later that night the accused escape and was found hiding at an unidentified primary school building and was taken to the Wilberforce police post where he was locked up.

The witness further said that the next day the deceased was transferred to the Connaught hospital and was later taken to the provinces by his relatives for treatment where he died.

The witness concluded that he made a statement to the police at the Wilberforce police post.

The scene of crime officer Sahr Steven Bangura attached to the Kenema police station recalled what happened on 3rd of December 2019.

He said on that day he witnessed a postmortem examination on the remains of the deceased (Ibrahim) at the Kenema government hospital conducted by Dr.Jimmy Mansaray.

He said during the examination, he took five photographs of the body and that after the postmortem he returned again to the Kenema police station.

According to him, in his evidence, he used Cannon 500 digital camera to take photos and he developed them into pictures. The said pictures were produced and tendered in court to form part of the evidence.

Both witnesses were cross-examined by defense counsel Ibrahim Macfoy.

The accused Francis Conteh was arraigned before Magistrate Mark Ngegba on one count of murder contrary to law.

The particular offense indicated that the accused on 23rd October 2019 at Wilberforce Freetown murdered Ibrahim Conteh. The matter was adjourned to 16 July 2020 for further hearing
