Sierra Leone’s ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has expressed condolences to the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) following the death of its National Chairman, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, as arrangements get underway to return his body to Sierra Leone for burial.

In a statement dated June 15, the SLPP said it received news of Mansaray’s passing “with thoughtful despondency,” describing him as a devoted public servant who dedicated many years to national service.
The party noted that Mansaray had served in several senior roles, including Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources and Minister of Labour, as well as National Chairman of the APC, contributing to national cohesion, peace and democracy.
Separately, Minority Leader of Parliament Abdul Kargbo said arrangements were underway to fly the late chairman’s body home. Writing on Facebook, Kargbo said he had accompanied Mansaray’s wife from the hospital in Dakar, where the statesman died, to her residence, adding that the body was currently in a mortuary.
Kargbo described the death as a painful moment for the nation, saying the country was navigating the loss with prayers for strength and comfort.
“At this tough time, the SLPP extends heartfelt and deepest condolences to the leadership, members and supporters of the APC,” the statement said, adding that sympathies were also extended to his family for what it described as an “irreparable loss.”
The party said that despite political differences, Sierra Leoneans were united in mourning, and offered prayers for Mansaray’s soul and strength for his family and party.
The message was signed by SLPP National Secretary General Umar Tarawally.
